The movie Avatar has been in theaters for more than a month now and I decided it was time to go and see it. I'm not one who likes to see a movie on the weekend that it opens due to the crowds, but, in this case, this movie remains extremely popular with tons of folks still going to watch it.
Even tonight, the theater was filled to capacity on a Tuesday night for a 10:30 showing. This really goes to show how much attention the movie is receiving. Going into it with high expectations, I was hoping not to be let down.
It always seems like if I am told that a movie is great, it turns out to be not so great. With Avatar, it was indeed an awesome movie and the fact that it was in 3-D made it even better.
Bar none, this movie was indeed the greatest one that I have ever watched with regard to the visual effects. Granted, there are only a few times where it seemed as if things in the movie were coming at you, but those 3-D effects are what undoubtedly made this movie so extraordinary.
The action in this movie and the story itself were nicely joined together by Cameron, with the end result being that the plot and the 3-D technology were united as one. When you watch Avatar, it seems like you are really there on the planet of Pandora. I know for sure that I was not the only one who felt like this.
This was an abstract world, filled with enough fantasy to establish a cult- like following. If you've seen the also brilliant Pan's Labryinth and enjoyed it, you'll appreciate the magical creatures that grace the screen in Avatar.
Finally, Avatar is a movie that all ages can enjoy. My recommendation is to definitely go see it in 3-D.
While it'd still be a highly enjoyable movie viewed in its regular format, I couldn't imagine missing out on the experience that I just had. Get to theaters to see this masterpiece.
